I have a brand new GPZ1100 engine (the bike fell off a truck before a race meeting with 50kms on the clock), now to my question, will the gear clusters, bearings and clutch fit my Z1R casings.
I know the GPZ drive shaft has a bigger diameter and the clutch is different in size.
If this has been discussed previously let me know, I couldn't find anything on this topic
First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, 1983 fully recon motor fitted LOVE THIS BIKE
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as FJ above)

The sad part is that the Z1r top end is fantastic, the bike goes like hell, is smooth uses bugger all oil, sounds like new (no rattles), basically the GPZ motor would require a fair bit of work on the topend to equal the Z1R. The GPZ motor itself (from what I heard) requires work to fit in the Z1R frame anyway.
I was really hoping to to just install a new gear set (the easiest option) but the more I read, I might as well fix the current setup.
