here is the deal..... ;) you use the KZ 1000/ Z1/ KZ900 basket which is less prone to coming apart like the GPZ basket :pinch: .... HTH

Again thanks mate, I have to admit even though the Z1R has had a hard life, I had the clutch hub damper springs changed at 60,000kms with heavy duty ones (before it rattled like a Ducati clutch) since then its been quiet with no problems. I was just curious more than anything else. As usual your input is appreciated.

First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, 1983 fully recon motor fitted LOVE THIS BIKE
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as FJ above)

I just sent you a pm without reading this post :silly:
I need to replace my springs in my clutch hub, did you do it or someone else and how did they get the hub apart besides grinding the studs /plugs /rivets (whatever the're called) how much pressure did it take to push them out?? We have tried but the press wasn't big enough.
Cheers

Is there a difference in gear ratio between the gpz 1100 trans and a mark II ?

Would really like a gear range thought-out the box for top end and pass on off the line.

I didn't do the job myself it was done about 30yrs ago by Mick Hone motorcycles Victoria Australia. He used to be one of the top racers in them days. What he had done is to cut/grind the tags holding the springs fit heavy duty ones (I think they were GPZ1100 springs?) and reweld the tabs so there was no free ply on the springs, then he checked for balance (didn't need any re balancing).
I do believe that these days they cut the rivets and and re-rivet but I don't know who does this. Till this day (over 140,000kms) my clutch has no rattles (shame about the old bastard on the bike at higher speeds  )
As for the gear ratios it shouldn't be hard to find them on the web but I would be interested to hear if the gears make a noticeable difference as well, if so how/where?.

I made a mistake with my last reply. When I pulled the engine apart, it also gave me a chance to check the clutch hub and how it was repaired, I found that the rivets were ground around the sides and once the springs have been replaced they were welded back.

I'll be happy to post photos if anyone is interested. I don't know why I thought the tabs were rewelded - it was done over 30years ago. Now where was I, who are you? :silly:
