15k miles on the cam chain are not an issue - but as the cam chain wears, your cam timing changes. For now I would just ride the bike. But as others mentioned, slotted can sprockets will get you better performance. So when you get a few weeks where you don't ride, replace or modify the cam sprockets and degree in the cams.

The shop manual tells you the wear limits on the cam chain - typically it takes 40,000+ miles to get close to this limit - although high lift cams and heavy duty valve springs will accelerate the wear. When you convert the wear limits to degrees, the change is massive - at least 3-4 degrees on the exhaust cam, and even more on the intake cam...

I plan to do the adjustable cam gears. But probably not until winter.
I did not have the head ported. I had it blasted clean, but no porting.

Good input. Next time I decide to pull this thing all apart, I'll do the cam chain.
