Some times it ain't the motor it's the rider and the set up.
First time I went to the track with the worn out 650 motor
went 13.90 ended up not touching the motor I went 13.20's.
Put the 750 motor in with VM22 carb's (all I had) a junk header
first time out went 12.70's
Again not opening the motor but now with VM29's and a good pipe
and a junk 130 tire went 12.12 last time 1/4 mile.

All I'm saying is if your gonna drag race work on the chasssis
first and learn to ride it then you can use the power you've got

Exactly correct :)

I have watched a turbo Busa that's laying down an easy 200 RWHP run no better than a 6.1 1/8th mile week after week because the guy can't ride it quick on the back wheel :silly: . Same track, going back a few years before an accident happened and THE DOMINANT BIKE week after week was a mostly stock Buell because that guy was smooth as a milkshake on a hot afternoon.....

But getting down to what works great for a wicked street motor, all inclusive application, something you can do anything with, not have to tinker, run pump gas, etc.

1197 Piston Kit 10.25:1
100CFM Head
RS36 Flat Slides
Web #493 Grind Cams on 108 centers
APE Shim under Buckets with OEM Retainers
Pearson Crank Work
Trans under cut is optional
530 Drive Chain & Sprocket Conversion
Header of your preference [I would bolt a Vance & Hines on it in a heartbeat myself]

Bottom up refresh, tossing all the old cam chain related crap and using new Liska parts. APE studs & head nuts. Hell, you can even keep the OEM CDI ignition and get some Dyna coils.

Anyway....that's what I'd do and I guarantee if it's all done properly you WILL LOVE IT. Build a nice chassis to slip it into and all the disrespect you're getting will stop.

I agree, I am not bashing harley's I simply relayed a story that happened to me and how un-educated some people are. I will ride and have ridden with all types of bikes, I don't care what you ride as long as you don't start bashing on my ride then all bets are off. I have never walked up to a group of bikers and start bashing on their rides but I have been approved numerous times by harley riders who walk up to me and start bashing mine. Now they start it and I simply end it.

My main problem with HD's is it seems like too much $$ for too little. That and everyone and their dog's dog has one around here! I do need to try out a Road King and a Street Glide sometime.

Kaws for streetfighting are the way I roll.

Harleys for putting in comfort from Home to Maggies in New Mexico

Love all bikes as shown above. I just pick the right one for what the ride is for.

Dollar for Dollar spent, You will get way more race winning on a Kaw , new or old then a HD

I'm 59 and grew up in Maine and have been riding my whole life. There were two kinds of Bikes-Harleys and Jap Junk, the later included everything from BMWs to Bimotas, In 1975 I went to look at a Sportster that was for sale but had been sold- The guy had a 1973 900 Z1 that I bought for $1700 and rode for about 4 years smoking every one of my friends Harleys. I love Harleys and ride a 1987 FLHT that is Highly modified but won't keep up with my 1980 Kz1000 G1 that is pretty close to stock. You could beat that guy 10 out of 10 times but it won't change the fact that some people including a lot of my old friends are ignorant and will never change.

Well, that kinda pissed me off a little and I told him I'd race him and we could burn the loosers bike.
Now's the problem, I don't want to burn my bike. So I'm collecting parts for a Z1A/GSXR streetfighter build, but have some engine questions.
A member here is doing some work for me and offered me a 1260cc big block and 10:5 pistons for my build, but I have been doing some reading and I'm not sure if I should use it or not?
I've read about issuses if you install a big bore kit on a street bike, like overheating, upgading tensioner, welding the crank and undercutting 2nd gear. Would all of this hold together?

and make something like this

and spank that Harley's ass.

I have the exact same GSXR parts as this guys build.

P.S. Is this person in the thread a member here, but under a different name? I thought I seen this bike here before.

Just watch him ride. It will give you the information you need. Take your bike to the track and get some consistent times. It sounds like he has no clue what a KZ1000 is or he would not make such a stupid comment. This leads me to believe he is a poser and will not get out of the hole. Or he is a hell of a Hustler and might want to race for titles. Most races are lost by the rider not the bike. On the street the better rider usually wins. And its will be in the first 200 feet. He might steal a second or two on reaction time or jumping the gun if your not prepared or nervous. I smoke lots of stuff on this C14. With the bags on it will beat my KZ900 by a couple seconds in the 1/4 mile. Watch out for Old Grey Haired guys on Big Block Sport Touring Bikes also.

My suggestion go to your local track on a test and tune night
a few time's most time the track prep. sux and the bike will spin like on the street.

Don't worry about full pass's work at getting out of the hole
and gettig your foot on the peg for the 1-2 shift.
Learn to leave at full throttle sliding the clutch to keep from blowing the tire off.
Your left hand is the most importent thing in motorcycle drag racing.

After a 25 year break from running a bike I'm having to learn it all over again.
After about 250 pass on my little bike I'm cuttin 00 light's and mowing
my big bike buddy's down at the 330 foot that's how I'm beating them.

Not a Dutchman from Holland with a white beard called Hildo, is it?
You might just be walking home from the BBQ. :P

There is something otherworldy about experiencing the sound of an air cooled inline four redlined while heeled over at 35 degrees from horizontal, with the slipping rear tire violently trying to shake you from your perch atop the slewing beast..
