I have had my exhaust off a few times and have had to tighten it a few time through general going over

is loctite a good idea I use it in several other places

have always heard to use antiseize on stainless bolts to aluminum
locktite on nut bolt combinations was curious about if its a good idea on exhaust nuts

Some grades of red loctite are good up to 450 F, but just how hot does your exhaust system studs get? Usually, torquing them will be good enough.

I have a vintage flattrack race bike and everything that has ever vibrated off of that bike has been drilled, torqued to factory specs, and safety wired. Including exhaust nuts. Done right, they never rattle loose again and can be removed by simply snipping the wire and removing the nut. Paul.

Don't be ridiculous! It's only a flesh wound!

Thats the best way to do it.

It least you know nothing of importance will fall off your bike at the worst possible time!!

Just hate drilling all those little holes in all those nuts and bolts!!!!!

You can also use the technique Harley owners use. Always ride in pairs. The trailing rider has the responsibility of picking up the parts that fall off the leading bike. After ten minutes, reverse positions.

Never use Thread lock on the exhaust nuts.
It's ok for installing the actual studs in the head but not on the nuts.
Always fit the nuts with copper grease to prevent seizure and use spring washers to secure them.
I use a plain washer against the flange first if it's alloy to stop the spring washer chewing the soft alloy.
I've never had them come loose after the initial first ride and following re-torque.

I am not sure about on the exhaust studs.Ive never tried this either, but. I saw on power block tv on spike tv. They showed that you can make your own lock nuts by using the regular nut and running fishing string thru the nut then starting the nut on the stud or bolt. I guess they say it really works. like stated, i dunno if it would work on the exhuast. It probably would get to hot and melt.

One suggested method to do the exhaust nuts is to snug them up by feel without over tightening, ride the bike, then re-snug them. The torque value may be INCH-pounds, so you don't want to crank them down too tight. I use a small wrench & apply finger pressure (instead of grabbing a bigger wrench & using a death grip)... an unnecessarily broken exhaust stud would be a real drag. The 650's are 6mm, so they'd be easier to snap off than your bike's 8mm.
