You can buy the seal, o-ring, and gasket seperately from any Kawasaki dealer, or Z1E should be able to order them for you. They (shown as parts lableled 21, 22, and 28 in diagram below) all are still "Active" parts. The total cost for all three parts is less than $9 at Ronayers.com; of that the seal is $5.29. Ed

I got everything installed and when I went to put in the new tach cable...freaggin' heck, the nut cracked again. Last time it cracked when I went to loosen it, now when I was tightening it. I didn't realized they were so fragile. I was tightening it with pliers, and it looks like it should only be by hand. The new cable I ordered was NOS. Now I have two perfectly good tach cables without the nuts that tighten them to the drive gear. What a waste.
Can the nut come off on the KZ650? It does on the KZ900. Had the same thing happen to me one day before a scheduled ride after re-assembling the head. I was able to match my broken nut to one from a local junk yard. The one I matched was the type that doesn't come off the cable, but this junk cable was toast. So I was able to buy it for a couple of bucks and cut the cable to remove it and then use my dremel to modify the nut to be able to slip it onto my cable. Just an option if you want to be able to salvage that new cable you have. The nut I found at the junk yard seemed to be made of stronger material than the one I replaced.
