Zach, are you saying you are seeing a spark when your points open and close between the two points contact? That is called arcing and will burn the points. I think the cause of arcing is too small of a gap. You may need to adjust your points. Have you done any point adjustment lately? Mine wouldn't start after I took the base plate out in order to hammer it flat. Had been damaged by the P.O. When I replaced everything I thought I set the gaps correctly (dual points) but one was off. Bike wouldn't start. Just thought it may be worth checking. And aside from that, remember, the part of the points that contact the ignition cam wears (some kind of composite material) and means the point gap gets progressively smaller with time from wear. You may just have reached the threshold in wear were the points are arcing and the bike won't start. Just food for thought.

1. Remove spark plugs, and attach them inside the caps that connect them to the plug wires from the coil --
2. Ignition switch ON; transmission in neutral; kill switch in RUN position; clutch lever squeezed; kick stand UP --
3. Hold the bases of the plugs against the engine head --
4. Spin over the engine with electric starter or kick starter --
5. Look for sparks at tips of the plugs.
Wanting to see fat blue sparks -- not weak orange sparks.
Fat blue spark is evidence of a serviceable ignition system, but doesn't guarantee that the spark plug will fire under compression after it's re-installed.
The better practice is to fit brand new spark plugs of the exact type recommended in the factory service manual.
