A little update. I thought I had an 81 engine and an 82 engine. After measuring the cams in both motors it seems I have 2 81 engines. The 82's had the same cam intake and exhaust according to my manual. Anyone run 2 intake cams in an 81 GPZ engine? Is it that much of an upgrade? Anyone have any upgraded cams or ideas? I don't want this project to get out of hand money wise. Who is the best to send the head to for a street valve/port job?
Any insight/tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

zukdave.....Just my own personal opnion based on having both sets of carbs, keep the 29s if its a street bike, trade if its a race bike. This is on an 1105 sleeved 900 with headwork, cams, & Kerker. Maybe someone can get the 33s to consistenly idle right but Im not one of them

There's good and bad racks of carburetors out there in all sizes. With enough tuning effort, you can make anything pull hard in the upper rpm range. It's dialing in the bottom end for good street behavior that separates the men from the boys....

FUEL LEVEL is THE FIRST THING TO GET RIGHT BEFORE YOU JET. That, of course is preceded by knowing you have a healthy engine to start with.

The GPZ had 2 bolt cam sprockets. Instead of making new billets for that engine, the cam grinders all used the earlier 3 bolt cams and you had to use an adaptor cam sprocket made by one of the "leading performance parts manufacturers" :P .

So if you have 2 bolt cams in your motor, unless the lobes have been welded, they would be stock.

I've heard some negative things about the 33's but I've used them since 1988 when I bought my MKII. At the time, it had a 1075 kit and mild cams. It now has a 1260 kit and .425 cams....the 33's have run perfectly for me all these years. If you already have them you might as well try them out and make up your mind.

The Kaw List:
Current: 79 KZ1000 A3 MKII, 78 KZ1000 A2, 78 KZ1000 Z1-R, 78 KZ650 SR, 80 KE175
Former: 03 KLX400SR, 99 ZRX1000, 82 KZ750 LTD, 80 KZ1000 A4 MKII, 80 KZ1000 LTD, 78 KZ1000 A2, 74 H-2 750 Triple, 78 KL250
