GPZ motor was created by stain
I just purchased an 82 GPZ1100 parts bike for a project I have been sitting on for a few years. I purchased the bike mainly for the 33mm smoothbores that came on the bike. The thought in the back of my head was with the bigger carbs maybe there was some goodies inside. I removed the top end to find a 75mm bore with Weisco pistons. The cams don't have any markings on them but the cam gears read Z1000, they are NOT slotted.
This is my first Kawi engine as I have been working mainly on Suzuki's. Can anyone tell me if this was an aftermarket kit of some sort or maybe just an overbore?
Thanks

Sounds like an 1170 kit, which would be the biggest you can run in the stock 1100 sleeves.
Ive got a block and set of those pistons someplace I bought from kano here on the site a few years ago. B)

I am having troublr getting my pictures to load
After some research and measuring it seems as these might be cams from a KZ1000. The exhaust cam lobes are different from the intake and my manual says the B2 cams were the same. Also the B2 cam gears were marked as such and these say Z1000 as it would on a KZ1000. Is my thinking corrrect? Why would someone do this? Is this supposed to be a performance upgrade? Any suggestions on what to put back into it?

Could I have an KZ1100 motor painted black in a GPZ frame?

Yes any 1000/1100 j series motor could be made to look like a gpz motor if you didnt check numbers on front of cylinder or serial number on cases B)

Well if it is a J motor I still think I am OK. I want the 1170 kit in it and the cylinder head. I will use some APE cams or the stockers out of the other GPZ motor I have. It seems the 33mm smoothbores were a little overkill for stock head and cams??

I am running RS36's on my 1135cc kitted GPz1100 with mild porting, stock cams and a 4 to 1 Kerker. I LOVE these carbs, I have tons of low end torque, amazing midrange and lots of top end. I would use the 33's.
