So I finished rebuilding my engine on the bike, I had been riding it around breaking it in. Yesterday I was riding it and it started to bogg down and then it died, couldnt get it started, let it cool down until and had to up the idle just to get it home. Checked the spark plugs and 1/4 lean and 2/3 rich. Today I went to start it just to see how it sounded and then I got these weird noises. They sound pretty bad :(. Im attaching a video of the noises hopefully yall can help me pinpoint what it is.

Do a compression test and hope for the best.

the clacking/knocking sound kinda sounds like a bearing to me, but a little faster than I've heard before. Maybe just because bikes tend to idle higher than cars. Might pull the valve cover and double check all the valves good, messed up valve spring could cause one to get bent and make noise and run poorly. It's always a little hard to tell just from a video. But the bearing or valves are my best guess.

Not sure about the kazoo sounding noise when you start, but mine does that too, so if that's a different thing I'd love to know.

Yeah I was hoping not to hear its a bearing but thats what I figured, I was worried about the kazoo noise but I guess thats kinda normal, sounds like its coming from the starter area. I will do I compression test and let yall know. Just sucks, thought I actually rebuilt it right and was all proud and now this lol.

Yea, I saw on the duplicate of this thread MFOLKS said that weird sound was the starter clutch. That's not a big issue I don't think. The bearing sound probably is. Good luck man, and hey, you at least got it running, so most of it's probably fine, just gonna be some work to fix the one thing you missed the first go around. We all gotta learn somehow man.

thanks for the encouragement, I did a compression check numbers came out as: 1:130 2:125 3:120 4:135. This is quite different from my first check after rebuild which was: 1:155 2:150 3:125 4:175. Did ring seating change it that much? Also it is running better now, Sounds like the noise is coming from the starter clutch/sprocket cover area of the engine. Once again I am attaching a video trying to get the idea of the sound. Could it be the start or starter clutch or am I just having wishful thinking?

The SQUORK noise when you hit the starter made me think it was the starter clutch.

Other thing to check is timing chain tensioner.

I would also want to check oil pressure.

Yeah I mean I did a pipe test the day it overheated and 1/4 were hotter than 2/3 but 2/3 did have heat . Also it seemed to be running well until it got really hot.
