Cool cool. Thanks everyone. Looks like I'm going to buy a bunch of vacuum line, vac plugs and some tees and get it all strung up properly.

Last question I think for now... according the pic above, it looks like there will be no vac lines going to the carbs at all then, correct? 2 and 3 are already capped off, and then since I'm removing the tee that goes to 1 and 4, those will be capped too. So, no vacuum at all to them? Thanks

I've been looking for a new petcock (figure just replace instead of trying to rebuild this one) but not having any luck. Any ideas on where to get one?

Probably a matter of semantics, but vacuum is produced by and comes from the carb.
There is no vacuum furnished to the carb.

Where a vacuum operated petcock is the only component requiring some vacuum, all the carbs' vacuum nipples should be capped/plugged, with the sole exception of one single vacuum nipple being used to supply vacuum from the carb through a hose to the petcock.

Most 4-carb designs on our Kawasakis include a vacuum nipple on each of the four carb holders.
However, some of then include an additional fifth vacuum nipple (sometimes mistakenly identified as a vent nipple), which additional fifth vacuum nipple is dedicated to the vacuum petcock.

If the petcock is a manual petcock -- instead of a vacuum petcock -- any such additional fifth vacuum nipple should also be capped/plugged.

Good Fortune! :)

Yea. since the PO did whatever it is he did to that petcock, you'll just have all the vacuum ports blocked off. If you later replace it with a vacuum petcock, then you'll take one of the ports and use it for a vacuum line to the petcock.

I'd definitely consider replacing that petcock though. Even if you just get an aftermarket manual one, should be fine. I'd just be worried that as soon as you have a float problem (which it seems like everyone does eventualy), you'll walk outside and find gas everywhere with the one on there, since it never shuts off. Looks like a hackjob that was done by the previous owner to get it to flow fuel instead of rebuilding it properly.

You should be able to get a petcock from most places. I'd just call Z1 and ask them what they got for you. Might be hard to get an original one, but they'll know what will fit and work for you.

So much good information here. I appreciate all the help from everyone. I wish it was warmer out so I can work on this thing! Getting excited.

I don't know what the PO did honestly. Who know what was going on in his mind. I ask him and he doesn't have a clue :)

So I've seen on some other posts that when people have a petcock ON all the time, they install an inline on/off valve. Is that better or should I find a full vacuum petcock?

Lastly (for now), assuming I get a working petcock, is it better to run vac to it from 1 carb, or tee of multiple to the petcock? I can't see that making a huge difference but 2 sources of vac are usually better than 1.

Vacuum from one carb is amply sufficient.
More lines provide more leak opportunities.

I prefer the simplicity of a manual petcock, and remembering to turn it off when parked.

It also allows turning off shortly before ride's end to lessen fuel remaining in the float bowl.

Make sense and sounds good. I may try to pick up a manual petcock this evening along with fuel line and get that altogether.

One more question for now. Any good sites out there on how to really clean up the carbs? I've pulled them apart and reassembled them once already but got the rebuild kits and want them spotless inside.
