thanks for taking the time to give us all the info on the bearings sizes and sources, and how to repair the idlers if we have the equipment(i do ).
to me what fails first and how the fail doesn't matter  .
fact of business is THEY DO FAIL,
and you have led some of us(me for one)outta the dark and into the light.
i got it now and it is all thanks to you.
you have just (buy the way of sharing knowledge) moved one of my z1r's a large step closer to completion.

I don't really care what you do or don't have confidence in. If you want to waste your time fk'ng around trying to make chicken soup out of chicken shit....by all means.. carry on, you're doing a fine job  I've got better things to do.
Here's what I just rebuilt. Guess what...new parts only  4 chains and lots of sprockets inside those. Just think of the fun you could have with all those sprockets

When the rubber goes have it replaced with alloy.
As long as the teeth are ok and you keep a check on the needle bearing which is replaceable they will virtually last forever.
This is the size of bearing they need. simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p92295/BA78ZOH...ch/product_info.html
And here's a pic of the modified idlers.

Is there a decimal point missing or what? That seems a bit overkill and just not possible for such a small bearing. Something like this is what I would be able to get.

Depending on which year engine you pull the idlers from these bearings are exactly the same as fitted to the later mk2/st etc.
The earlier years have an increase roller count but are exactly the same bore, width and dia.
When searching for these replacements i could not find any available with the higher count and concluded that they were probably specials exclusive to kawasaki as are many of the other engine bearings.
Looks like they maybe switched to an after market bearing supplier for economical reasons.
Either way they seem to be up to the job for which they are used for and i have not had any fail in all the years i have used them.

Many thanks zed, I'll post pics of mine once the mod has been done, very excited about not having to shell out $400+ for new idlers! Cheers!
