That's my main worry. If you are removing the blue, you are also removing the top layer of chrome. Eventually, you will go through it. I just let them be as blue as they wanna be..... I think that was the title of a Hank Willaims song.

Pete, I've seen these Techline coatings hold up much better than spray can high heat coatings for a marginal increase in cost. We use Satin Black. 4oz. should get you done. You can mop this deep inside your primary tubes with a sponge type brush on a wire.
Be careful that you don't damage the chrome when trying to remove your bluing. I tried a product years ago that left my chrome header dull looking. Can't remember the name, but Blue Away sounds familiar.

Pete, if your pipes are blueing, you are too lean man. I spray high heat paint inside my pipes liberally twice, let them dry and put them on. If you jet the carbs to a tan collord plug your pipes wont blue. I have only run chrome pipes and I only blued the first set cause I didnt richen up the carbs.A header flows better so it needs more fuel Pods flow better and yhey need more fuel also. I will dissagree with anybody that says all chrome pipes will blue. As a safe practice, richen up one size if you go from stock pipe to header. My green KZ has had three different pipes on it and none are blue.

Am addicted to Z1's and kz 900's have an el camino, fly rc helicoptors and am strung out on horsepower.

Mike, my pipes turned blue before I painted the insides with the high temp paint, you said you painted the insides of your pipes before you put them on, thats probeably why your pipes havent turned blue, thats why I wanted to get the blue off of my pipes, & try the paint thing...P.S. that blue job did work, but as others said, it takes alot of elbow grease, I spent about 45 min. a day for three days, so if the paint works, it was worth it to me...Ill be posting before & after pics. soon with a little interesting info about the product....Pete

I've seen pipes blue up because the engine was was burning oil.
On a bike with no dynamic tuning, single wall pipes is gonna blue.
Hell, I've seen bikes with O2 sensors and fancy shmancy tuner chips turn the pipes blue.
The quality of the chrome has some influence and one big influence that most guys overlook, your hands. What part of that pipe did you put your mitts all over repeatedly when you installed them and just about any time you were working on the bike in that area? That's right- the first bend coming out of the head. You don't thoroughly clean that area of all of the salts and oils off of your dickskinners and the next time you get your pipes good and hot they are going to discolor. True story, been there, got the t-shirt.
