Looked inside the clutch housing lately? Has any work beem done on the clutch, like new parts? I suspect a loose pressure plate bolt or clutch basket nut making the noise.

The left side of the engine has the magnetic rotor, and some have started to have adhesive failure holding the magnets in place. For ease of mind(get a new gasket for the cover), open up the cover and see if the magnets are loose.

This company in England makes/sells replacement rotors: www.electrexworld.co.uk/acatalog/Online_...ogue_Rotors_188.html

Title says "ticking from left side"; text says "...recently developed a ticking sound from the right side of the engine..." Which is correct? Ed

That's why I addressed possible noises from both sides. (People get left and right confused with motorcycles and airplanes).

Any charging problems? Check the tighness of the fasteners on the stator(that's the wire windings)too. They might be the popular Torx(star) or #3 phillips size.

I have a $5.00 stethoscope I purchased from HF I use to search for engine noises. Would save you some time and work and try to narrow the location of the noise before you start taking parts off. If you don't have a stethoscope, try using a wooden stick (part of a broom handle for example) to put against your ear and use it as sound conduit instead. Or maybe even a piece of PVC pipe (never tried that) may work. Good luck.
