Not Good was created by GPZ Buggy
Ok for those of you that don't know I put a GPz 750 motor in a buggy frame. I'm in the process of starting and tuning it and I noticed today that there is a good amount of oil in the exhaust. I know this is not good but can anyone pinpoint what the problem is? I'm thinking bad rings.

A little history
The motor is out of a 1984 Kawasaki GPz 750
It has 38K miles on it
It's oil cooled which I'm still using on the buggy.

Do a cold compression check first, write doen the numbers, then remove the sparkplugs & add a small amount of oil (maybe a teaspoon) and reinstall the sparkplugs and do the compression check again.

If there is a noticeable increase in compression, it might be piston ring and hone time.Usually when the engine is apart, valve guides get checked, valve stem seals get replaced and the cam chain may or may not be replaced(depending on how much stretch is found).

Oh Man,
I have so many questions to ask that you left unanswered.
How did it run before you put it in ?
How much oil is in it ?
Wet oil? Like dripping out? Or just smoking?

The more info we have helps alot.

Even where compression tests okay, worn valve stem seals may allow oil into the combustion chambers.

And would also examine the crankcase oil for possible fuel contamination.

Good Fortune! :)

Did the motor recently get a Wiseco big bore kit installed in it?

Does it blow oil droplets out the pipe?

If so, overlapped oil control rings are a strong possibility.

How did it run before you put it in ?
I bought the entire bike from a guy las summer and I sat and listened to it run for 5-8 min. It then sat for about 8 months during the transplant.

How much oil is in it ?
The bike has the recommended amount of oil in it. If you look at the little oil window on the side of the Ike it is full.

How do you cool that engine, it's an air cooled engine, not oil cooled. It has an oil cooler but that is not the primary method of cooling. It relies on the flow of air passing over the fins.

 With air flow being more restricted over the rear-mounted engine, are there any enhancements to cooling, such as some sort of fan or blower to move air over the engine fins and/or over the stock oil-cooler?

Good Fortune! :)

Cooling that puppy is going to be tough. Not only is the air blocked by the buggy's chassis and driver/passenger, but the engine is mounted backwards. Whatever air makes it through will be hitting the back of the engine rather than the front, and the engine designed to cool from the front. It will for sure need some serious fans to keep it from getting too hot. Maybe a liquid cooled engine would have been a better choice.
