Can only feel a very small ridge on the cam, a little larger on the journal. I'm thinking it must have been something stuck in the journal the way it grooved. I can't see how it would continue to be a problem if it was clean when put back in. Maybe smooth out the journal just a hair without changing tolerance.

Which cap picture is the one from the problem journal? None of them look too bad, at least not in the pics. But that could just be the angle of the pics. Looks like all of the scoring was on the head and not on the cap.
Are the pics of the cam both of the same end or opposite ends?

Where is the oil feed path for the scored journal? Is it possible it got plugged?

06 May 2012 16:03Pretty sure the twins use no inserts. The 750 twin has no inserts at all.DoubleDub wrote:wireman wrote: Is there cam bearings that go in that head or does it just ride on the casting?
That journal scares me
Looks like an insert in the photo, but hard to tell.

06 May 2012 16:16the first picture is the cap for the scored journal. All caps look good. and that is opposite ends on the cam shaft.gd4now wrote: Which cap picture is the one from the problem journal? None of them look too bad, at least not in the pics. I saw no signs of anything that could scratch anything, but this easily could have been an old scar from a previous repair because the head had been resealed before. high temp gasket maker inside the edges of the head.

Re: Your Thoughts on Engine Wear? Good pics.
06 May 2012 16:56Perhaps some excess sealer came loose and clogged an oil passage.Jay98 wrote: I saw no signs of anything that could scratch anything, but this easily could have been an old scar from a previous repair because the head had been resealed before. high temp gasket maker inside the edges of the head.

You can see some of the sealant on one of the clamps. Where are the oil passages? holes in the cam?
