What is the best oil for a 77 kz1000?

I second the 'search the site' but would add (as you're sure to find) that the bike was engineered to run an SAE type, and unless the motor's in a non-stock or worn out configuration, the Kawasaki factory hated warranty claims and always over-engineered their bike. Assuming a stock bike and in decent internal mechanical condition, the factory shop manual tells you what oil Kawasaki thought would give the engine the longest life/least chance of warranty claims.

I have a '78 Kz1000 A2 and my fsm says to run with SAE 10w40.

I'd suggest the Shell Rotella "T" oil in 15W40 weight.

i get that and other good oils at wal mart and change em a lot and change the filter a lot too...

they are a deal there and i can afford to change it often..

Good old decomposed dinosaur is the best. Pick a flavor and run with it. I run yamalube 20w50 in mine.

Why do so many motorcyclists loose sleep over "what oil" to run in their bike ? The average engine lifespan of the average street driven motorcycle is say 15-20K ? Yet I NEVER read a post about people loosing sleep over "what type of oil should I run in my 170K mi. Honda Civic automobile ?

I've tried every OEM brand of mineral based oil and I don't notice any dam difference between them... I don't run synthetics in a wet clutch motorcycle engine, and I like Kawi 10w-40 becuase it's priced very reasonable, and my Kawi dealer is 15 min from my house. I run the Kawi oil in all my bikes reguardless of make, even in my chineese pitbike !

Ive run 20/50 Castrol GTX oil in all my Kaws since my first 73 Z1. I have an 1105 engine in one thats been running since 1977 and still hauls butt. Youll get 1000 opinions on oil.

I've used castrol GTX in my bikes...all of them that I've had. With good results. Has anyone ever used GTX High Mileage in their old kaw?
