Installing V&H exhaust was created by cincykz
Hey everyone, I just ordered a V&H 4 into 1 for my 79 KZ650B3. Currently there is an old Kerker on the bike, but one of the headers is bent in, and there's a hole or ten rusted through it. I put the order through Z1, along with pretty much everything else I need to finish the bike this week. Looking around on forums I've seen things about exhaust gaskets. I had just assumed that the pipe would come with the necessary gaskets, was I correct or will I be needing to order more?

yep you need 4 gaskets.
if their 650 headers fit anything like their 900/1000 headers just remember patience is a virtue!

Thanks for the quick reply PLUMMEN. Do'h, nothing like making your big 'finish the bike' order and leaving out two bucks worth of gaskets...

Well, I made a call to Z1 and their service was excellent as usual. My previous order won't ship until tomorrow, so they're going to throw eight gaskets in with it, and I'm saving the extra ten bucks on shipping =)

your 650 will be killer with that pipe..super cool looking!!!! and way fun to blip the throttle on....you are gonna be digging it

Z1 ent is always cool to deal with and great about adjusting orders...X2

now we will need some before and after pictures for sure B)

also V&H has been taking a beating of late, some deserved, some just hearsay ,it would be of GREAT value to this site and to owners of the 650 and other like models if you could give a review on their pipe...how did it arrive?how was it for finish out of the box? how easy was it to get to fit?how tight was the fit and final look? how are the welds? everything...

They were a great pipe for years and then had some problems , i bet some folks would like to know what the current pipes are like...pictures and review ..pleaseeeeeeeeeee....oh and see if it shows in the paperwork when the pipe was produced...

thanks

LMAO. Yeah, sucked sanding down the finish between the header and the can to get that thing to fit together on my 900.

Grab a beer or 6 and you should be good to go.

last one i installed needed flanges filed down to get exhuast collars to slide over also,it was not a fun thing to do on a brand new chrome header! :S

Muffler shop expander tool takes about 5 seconds and often done for minimal charge or free with no visible change (no cracks in chrome) and resulting in perfectly snug but manageable fit. :cheer:

When I had this done on a brand new V&K 4>1, the muffler guy just smiled and said, "I'd marry that!" ;)

Imo, sanding, grinding and filing is ill-advised in this situation, and very un-Austin-like. :pinch:

Good Fortune! :)
