I'm reviving this thread from the dead!

I am working on a mild hop on one of these motors. Considering getting cams reground is $600-$700 Im hoping to do this swap. I have seen people say they have done it but i cant find anything documenting the process. I plan on cutting off the tach gear and putting the exhaust on the intake.

Intake : 1.30" base .318" lift
Exhaust : 1.27" base .38"lift

i don't really know how i should go about doing this. I'm going to put the intake sprocket on the exhaust. how do i know where to time the lobe center? how do i proceed?

The best way is to use a degree wheel.
Or note where the lobe on the intake is located at TDC.
Also mark on the advancer or flywheel where the stock intake closes
and compare that to the 'new' intake cam. This will concern dynamic c/r
cranking compression

So use a degree wheel, find lobe center for the current intake, then replace with exhaust cam and time the lobe center the same?

It is good to know where you have been to know where you are going.
It looks like the stock centerline is 100* compared to 110* for a KZ900/1000.
Which would be good for dynamic compression. But there is not enough
lift and duration. It can not breath.
