Thought....
Does riding style (cruise or twisting it more often then not), outside environmental conditions such as AZ heat index (HELL) and what I believe would be a huge factor in this discussion is performance builds effect the longevity of these seals.... hmmmm, me wonder....

Well of course we should add to the equation "They just don't make things the way they used to"... :(

Next time I need seals, I'll give the Vitons a try...
But Otto, if these turn out to shit, I'll be knocking on your door for I know where you live since I've been there....

I don't think I have anything to worry about. I think I can still take you. I don't think you would be disappointed. The main factor is time under extreme temperatures. I am not even sure that the oil factor comes in TOO much. This is, I think why there is such a large variance in service life. I think that a bike in rural Canada will get better life out of a set of seals than a bike that runs in Chicago, Miami, Tuscon, Phoenix, San Antonio or LA. Under city stop and go traffic (mostly stop) in external temperatures sometimes approaching 100f.

Well glad I installed the OIL cooler then for measured temps dropped significantly throughout the head locations...

Based on this discussion alone, helped in this equation no doubt... ;)

And BTW, shit old man you couldn't even break your way through a wet paper bag.... :woohoo: Jarine....

One factor that we have not covered and I will only mention and will not get into in this thread is oil additives. I am quite sure that some are quite inert to the Neoprene and some are very erosive and corrosive to it. I would think that especially in modern oils where the additives are more solvent compounds and not just dissolved solids like in the old days. I really have my doubts that modern engines use much Neoprene in them. Alcohol is the #1 "Destructor" of Neoprene. With piston blow-by, there is a lot of Alcohol that gets in American crank cases. Europe this is not a problem Toluene and Xylene will nor affect Neoprene.

Heck, I don't have to. I'm a Gunny, I have a whole Company of Marines to do that for me. Besides the Corps trained to take care of my problems at 500m+ unlike the Army that requires artillery to do what one marine can do with a three quarters empty rifle magazine.

hell even you marines they trained in bulk, up here in the great white north they went for quality not quanity. go airborne. and back to the problem at hand in my experiace with valve seal problems they have only became a real issue in the last ten years or so and from what i can tell alot of it been caused by the additive packages in the oil. in fact i have seen shift seal actually shrink enough to fall out of the cases because of the oil situation in certain makes of quads.this was a real problem in the mid 2000's.made alot of money doing warrenty engine jobs on those machines because of these problems. so you can only imagine what kind of abuse a valve seal is going to take with all the heat cycles and wear that can occur i personally only use the viton seals now myself for valves.

Only thing a Marine could do with a partially filled mag is throw it and run like Hell.Hee-hee.Airborne Forever.BJ

By the way< I am authorized to and do ware jump wings. Unlike the girls that graduate from Ft Benning. I graduated from Lakehurst NJ and my first jump was a freefall. Come to think of it, I never did jump static-line. We were always told that static line is for people that are absent minded enough to forget and pull the rip cord.

Those are NOT stock valve seals. They're not worth the price of the postage to send them either.
