Ok this is something I haven't seen before. I pulled the stator cover and there are 3 gaskets under it! I can only imagine why. Probably an earlier attempt to stop the leak. I can't imagine there is a clearance issue making 3 gaskets required. FYI there doesn't appear to be any RTV or any other type of goo on the gaskets. They are all installed dry.

The stator wires grommet is packed pretty full of black RTV and I'm digging that out a little before I re-apply some of my own.

Thoughts?

Did you get a new grommet? If not it will leak again.

new grommet? Not yet. Can't find it on Partzilla. Is there an aftermarket source?

And what do you make of the three gaskets?

Z1E or z1partsinc. Is one still good? Maybe a late rotor installed?

I pulled the outer two gaskets off with no problem. They look new. I was thinking that I could put some honda bond between the gaskets and leave the outside gaskets dry in case it was done for clearance. The wear pattern on the starter and ring gear look like dead center so the added gaskets aren't spacing it out too far. I'm going to think about this for a while. I have another brand new gasket here. Just got it in the mail yesterday.

Already posted the solution. Think about it all you want, oil is seeping through the grommet. Buy a new gasket,.

I know what to do about the leak. I have the new grommet on order and I have a new gasket here. What I'm thinking about is what to do about having 3 gaskets behind the cover which wasn't expected.

Back in 2011, I had this problem and didn't want to cut/ mess with the wires so I pulled all the slack wire back into the stator cover and cleaned the wires and grommet with soapy water (real good) and let it dry (real good) then applied black ATV to the wires and pulled them back into place and let everything dry ( real good) for a day or two and reinstalled it and haven't had a leak since , over 35,000 miles so far
