hi

over the in uk, finding an old part is like trying to find the Holy Grail!.. It's not a common part over here.

i've now contacted:-

www.tpoparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=55

and they've advised me that this linked part will fit the Kz750 ltd h2 1981.

q) tpo advised me to remove the reed valves. surely this is incorrect. if any mechanic is reading this info, can they advise me whether to remove or not remove the reed valves please.

I simply don't know. i'm an english rose who knows a fair bit about bike building and i've never seen this air system before.

many thanks for any advice. i don't want to ruin my bike etc. it's taken over 12 months to source the parts from the USA and Canada and import them all!..

kind regards

angie

ps. i've asked about the reed valve removal in previous thread, i would just like some technical proof about removal or not?

This is OK to remove the reed petals and install block off plates.
It is a air system, where air is sucked into the exhaust to hopefully help burn off some extra hydro carbon.
Blocking it all off is OK. The holes under the reed valves in the head go into the Exhaust port, not the combustion chamber.
Does this help?

hi motor

thanks for your message lovely!..

some members here say that you don't remove the reed valves, other members say you do? i was talking to a bike mechanic today who advised this to me. block one off and leave one with a pipe to the airbox?

see why i'm confused!...

any advice greatly appreciated. i live in the uk, land of no sunshine or brains. they're all caged over here and don't no anything our bikes!..

many thanks

You can down load many of the Factory Service Manuals on this site, most any will have this system in it, with full details of how it works, and testing. But won't suggest ways of blocking it off.
Once you have the correct fitting block off plates, then the reed valves can do nothing anyway, its all blocked off.
Didn't you say your airbox doesn't have the hole for the fresh air tube anyway? It would be above the two center carb boot holes, around 25mm diameter.

The TPO kit comes with vinyl plugs for the various ports that will be open once the smog gear is removed.

It has 8 button head cap screws, and the aluminum plates.

Not a bad deal for the price.

And No, I'm not a pilot, I worked on the Phantom II's during my enlistment with USAF 1966-1974 among other aircraft.

Would plug it to keep out dust, rain, etc.

A neat plastic snap-in plug may be available at hardware or auto supply. Or glue it in position.

Even duct tape, in a pinch. Black, of course.

A self-stick velcro pad could also work.

Good Fortune! :)

hi matey!

many thanks for your help with my project.
if i lived in the USA i would know all about the emission laws etc. being a country lass, all the air supply valve and plumbing is a puzzle to my bike building knowledge!

i was thinking about posting my restoration on KZR's!..
i won't be the first or the last!.. i've done a lot of different stuff to the bike to make it tastefully different!

thanks again for helping me!

regards

+1 on Pattons suggestion, go to get a Grommet blanking plug at the Auto supply. Take a measurement of the hole and ask for a wiring Grommet Blanking plug that size. Or a trip to a wrecking yard, most cars have these in the Bulk Head/ Firewall.
