Set the dial to ohms, and make sure your positive leads is plugged in the proper terminal for ohms.

The positive lead terminal changes for reading either ohms/voltage or currents. You probably already knew how to use a multi meter, just saying make sure it's set up right.

Okay now my bike starts fine,but after a few seconds of idling it starts to rev higher an higher until I shut the bike off why is this?

Would suspect air leak and/or sticking advancer.

Maybe too lean pilot circuit.
