Well here's the part out of the bike. Just like you said piece of cake. Now I just need to get a new one so I can try and put it all back together again. . Thanks for the encouragement and advise :cheer:

The part and gasket are ordered from Powers Edge. I decided to get new oil seals and a new clutch cable as well. Hopefully they won't take too long to arrive

:( :( :( :S  :X Terrible news.
I got an e-mail that Powers Edge doesn't have and can't get me my sheared shift shaft. I guess I'll start my begging and searching right here. If anyone on this board has one of these available I would be glad to take it off your hands. It must be off one of the bikes listed in the above thread. If it's not off one of those listed it won't work. It might look the same but it's not the same part. I'm reluctant to send my money to one my buddy found on e-Bay. I'm not sure of the source bike and the pawls look mighty worn. :S

Or.... evil bay ;)

Now is it the shifter SHAFT or the shifter it's self that broke??
Your picture makes me think it's the shifter and NOT the shaft that it slides onto..
But I've been wrong before, just ask my wife;)

Here is one I found

You're the man  I just ordered one of them from the links you sent me. For under twenty bucks at that. :P Maybe It will show up soon and it will actually be the right one and be in good shape and I'll be back on the road again in no time at all, yeah! :silly: Thanks again patmann
Oh by the way it is the shaft that broke right at the spline where the shifter grabs it.
I'll let you know when it shows up and it starts to go back together.

Glad I could ( hopefully ) help you. As one of my idols says, " We are all in this together".

When I look closer @ the pictures I see what you mean about the place it's broken at.

:woohoo: Yea! My bike is fixed and running again, thanks to you guys. I got my $18.50 part in the other day and it went in like a lego part. :P Everything went back together just like it was supposed to, until I went to adjust my new clutch cable. I couldn't get the slack out of the cable no matter what I tried. I read up on the instructions right here on the blog pages and did everything just the way it said to do it, and the cable would not get tight enough for anything. After playing with it for a couple of days I finally talked my buddy Don (riveroad) into coming over to look at it. As soon as we removed the chain cover he began to laugh and call me a dumb f**K! :side: I hadn't run the cable through the hole provided in the cover. I had run it right under the cover into the clutch release. Well it didn't take too long after that to get things going again. after putting it all together and some minor adjustments on the shifter linkage, we are back on the road again. Thanks for all the help from all of you. That's why this is the best site on the web to Keep the KAW's comming home. :woohoo: I'm riding it to work in the morning. B)
