tim,
i m wondering what you have in that 1075 to get 114 at the wheel.....shit, my gs1150 with a 1198 kit made 117 at the wheel with smoothbores that werent really dialed in i m told....114 with a 1075 is an excellent number.....

i used a few tricks i picked up over the years and i'm not scared to ring it's neck to get as much out of a motor as i can. it's a really good cylinder head mostly. big valves and major port work the head used to be on one of my race motors. the whole motor has impressed me but it wont be as strong this year i took off that head to put on a 1200 motor im putting together when i get home for a pro street bike i'm in the process of building so i just bolted a stock head back on for now.

My 1150 "J" motor with .420 intake and .410 exhaust heavily ported 84 GPZ head is geared for top end I am putting a 40/18 (2.28:1) final drive ratio on it. A properly geared 750 would be able to jump away from it in a hole shot. But once we start to get any speed I will have the advantage all the way. Standard rear ratios for Kawasaki was 39/15 (2.6:1) for cruisers and 41/15 (2.73:1) for hi-performance bikes. some drag racers use 46/14 (3.29:1)

900 / 1000 KZ's were 35/15 while LTD's were 33/15.

39/15 gearing on a KZ 1000 is for wheelies...

Your gearing is for traveling very fast with a built motor like that. I keep wishing I had a 6 speed trans in my bike... :)

The J series bikes were geared a bit different than the earlier bikes. I plan on mounting my new gearing this weekend, I am curious what it will act like.

so with a stock head, that 114 should go down...big valves and major hogging make all the diff...makes sense....

Dang, I was stoked with rear wheel @ 86hp on my first Dyno... Plum and Larry feel ~ low to mid 90's is where she'll end up being all dialed in & tuned...

Over 100 would be sweetness... Not counting on it, but whoa 114 RW HP on a 30 year old KZ... Way Cool B)

yes the old girl has suprised more than it's fair share of squids i can tell you. it's pretty quick too i have gone 10.75 at over 126 mile an hour with 15 -39 gearing. it was only one time and i did everything right on that pass but it did it. not bad for a stock wheel base bike on a street tire i figured.and she is 36 years old mr.OMR i'll have you know, speak kindly of the aged will you. with the stock head that i put back on and 29's and a yosh pipe with yosh cams i still should be up around 90+ hp i'd say.and a fresh set of 1075 wiseco pistons. with the old head on it i have been over 150 mile an hour many times riding with some buddies of mine on busa's. but thats the kind of stuff i have a zx-11 for now. that dam thing will just about cruise at 150 amazing thing to ride.

Now Timmy, you should know better where I would never disrespect the misses...

I have my gearing at 15/37 = 2.46 versus your 2.6... Yup gets there real fast due to the other engine build variables as well...

Lose some top end but get's there just about as quick as any new bike. Larry and I were speaking about that awhile ago, in comparing new bike Dyno charts, up to 8Krpm, not really a whole hell of a lot of difference on the HP curve...

After 8K, sure, hell of a lot of difference once their second set of valves kick in but damn, you're already into triple digits by that time...

I don't truly care about after 120mph for if this isn't fast enough :S on a naked KZ not sure what else would need in a engine build for a street ride.

Tim, you have any graphs of those Dyno runs?
Would love to compare them for planning on a Dyno coming up soon... I have the old girl fairly dialed in now...

Oops,
PM me or e-mail...

Sorry, just realized was hijacking here....

'bout time you got that back on the dyno Dave :)

I think you'll be pretty happy with the numbers for a little 1015cc with drop in cams...

keith i built a gs1150 with an 1166 kit in street bike chassis with 33 smoothies on it that made 148 horse and had 110 foot pounds of tourque it ran out of air at 8500 because of carb sizing but that thing was almost unrideable just a fluke combo the motor should have been in a drag chassis it acted more like a big block than an 1166. and my last 1197 kawi combo made 145 horse or so at over 100 lbs of tourque good working engine as well i had a set of 37.5 cone carbs on it. what size of smoothies do you have on your gs.
