I feel for ya man, good luck this time around! I just replaced my valve seals over the winter with some aftermarket ones. They seem to be fine sofar, BUT I wish in retrospect I spent the $$ and got the real ones simply for the peace of mind, I guess the aftermarket ones are prone to failure, and I will have that in my head now...

These seals at Z1 look like the real thing and not aftermarket. www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=101

Those are the ones I got in my gasket set. Z1E can order them for you, but they will charge what everybody charges which is closer to 8 or 9 bucks a piece. Like I said I have recently basically done what you did over the winter, and the seals seem to be ok sofar, but I wish I had spent the money on the real ones simply for the assurance that they are the real thing. BTW, putting new rings on is much harder than putting new valve stem seals...I (think) I had no problems installing them for the first time, you only need to get a valve string compression tool.

I rebuilt my engine last year with all new pistons rings seals and all. I just broke 800Mi on the engine today and after smoking to the point of burning over a quart of oil in 500Mi it is just now going away. The engine is braking in and the rings are starting to seat. That is 700Mi I suspect that it will be another 300Mi before it all gos away.

Wow, that's a lot of miles. Maybe I jumped the gun a little. Well after I put it back together I will let it smoke for 800 miles.

Was yours smoking as bad as mine?

I paid 50 CAD for it, but since it's princess auto I can return it whenever I want for cash, not that I will. You can also make yourself a tool to compress the springs, there are many many diy C-clamp and socket examples on here. that would be a lot less than 50 bucks.

if the ring end gaps and the finish on the cylinders are correct then it shouldn't smoke or at least be visable valve seals if they are bad will usally only cause the engine to smoke on start up i'd be looking at the ring directon make sure they are right side up.if they aren't it will smoke like a pig.

Ok,all the rings look right 2 and 3 pistons are the same as 1 and 4 which did not leak.

This may be a stupid question but did you have the cylinders deglazed prior to installing the new rings ?Sometimes new rings won't seat to a glazed over cylinder wall.

Never had any problems with valve guide seals as far as getting them on/off. Use a small pick to lift them off,it doesn't matter if you rip them .The new ones will slide right on the tip of the guide. I've used other seals over the years- lots of import cars have 7mm. valve stems.I know older Honda Civic seals will work.

Good luck with your problems.
