Lots of smoke was created by KZ1100 Bully
Hi, I started the bike for the first time and I got lots of smoke. I installed new rings over the winter. The plugs are black but not wet. I have oil coming out of the rear of the exhaust.

did you install the compression rings the right way they have a up and a down side on both the compression and scraper rings. usallt marked with a "n" or a dot to mark the top side of the ring also you may have snagged one of the oil control rings and folded it over.

If you just installed new rings, have you run it long enough to "seat" the rings in?

I went around the block 3km. Pretty sure the rings went in the right way.

If it's still smoking like that, my guess is a broken ring. Oil rings are easy to break... guess how I know that.

how far is that in real miles ??..lol

ok, was it smoking like that after you installed the rings and rode it for how ever far?, next are you sure you havent over filled it with oil.
and last, would be to run a compression check to see where it stands

I took the exhaust off and 2 and 3 are wet with a black tar oil. 1 and 4 are just black.

Real miles about 2, just way to much smoke to keep going.

Dried up valve-guide seals?...or even a broken one maybe.
Did you install new ones when you had the head off?

I did not replace the seals. The more stuff I try and fix I break something else taking it apart or putting it back together. Looks like I will try to replace seals this time sense I will have it all apart again. Getting to the seals seems to be tricky.

before you go tearing it back down, do a bit of work to see what is really wrong, compression check, leak down.
just trying to get a better idea of what is wrong, could even be the head gasket.

just sayin

I got it taken apart now and I can not see anything wrong The cylinder walls all look good rings look fine. Going to replace the oil rings in 2 and 3 with the old ones. Need a new base gasket now. Not so sure how to do the valve seals but will try.
