I have experimented with different gearing on my 650, and found that 2.357 (33 / 14) is about as high as I can go without laboring the engine at 70 + MPH. That is with a 140/90 x 16" rear tire. Mine does 4,220. at a true 55 MPH, verified with a GPS.
I would think that at a true 55 MPH you would be turning about 4,350 RPM. The higher RPM is due to the smaller diameter of your rear tire as opposed to mine. I guessed that it is a 180/55 x 17.
If you have a 1000 cc engine, you might be able to go a little higher - If you are only interested in highway cruising, but it would not be worth changing sprockets. So in summary, I think you are geared as high as practical right now. If you want acceleration, then go smaller on the front and or larger on the rear.

Front end, triple tree, front and rear brakes, wheels, rear sets, clip-ons, levers and fluid reservoirs a all from a zx7r 91-95 rear wheel and brake took some modification but the with a steering head bearing change the steering bolt and triple tree bolted right on!
I like it! Ive been wanting to do some changes like that to my 77 1000 now I know what direction to start in. What steering bearings did you have to use? Do by some strange chance have the part numbers of the bearings?
