I would keep it! No doubt in my mind... It has saved me many a time when my starter acts crazy!

If your interested in shaving weight from your scoot, then loose the E-starter and switch to a smaller battery, or capacitor.

I would remove the Kick Starter Mechanism. Having had one spin around inside the Cases and lock itself under the Operators Foot Peg, and bring the bike to a Screeching Halt from 50mph... I view it as a Saftey issue personally.

If everything is in good working order, there isn\'t much need for the Kick Starter.

I'm terrific.

Right, had the bike not had 35,000 abused miles on the motor when I picked it up things may have been different.

When taken apart after the Kick starter Mechanism spinning itself in the cases, we observed the cases appeared to have never been opened. This is one of those unpredictable occurrences.

Kind of like your Bro throwing himself down the street and hurting his toes on the GS. Things happen.

Now when I say proper working order, I mean all the Electrical Items/Connections being in Proper Working Order, and not having a need for the Kick starter.

My bike is already far from an original or restoration and that's not really the look I'm going for. I'm more into the drag/cafe/streetfighter styling.

Should I just ditch it to save the weight and for a better appearance? Will it actually start the bike in a pinch if the battery were dead or starter died?

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

Keep, if you're thinking 'save some weight' it's time to buy a new bike, I have a Suzuki RGV250 weighs 282lbs dry, 65hp, now thats light, you can't really think about weight with a vintage bike, back in them days they just did not care so much.

We own and ride these machines because they make a statement, something akin to appreciating a hot lady who, well she might be 45 but she is hot (think Bo Derek coming out of the swimming pool in "Tommy Boy", think Halle Berry in that James Bond movie, ....I could go on).

The kick starter says "I'm ready to rock, if the battery goes bad I'm kickin' it."

It's *nostalgia*, it's a chance to say "See here, I've really got something unique, it's a rare piece of potent machinery, you don't have one do you."

Or something like that I don't know.
Me personally I have a 1974 Kaw 400cc triple that makes me really look like the dork I feel that I am, yet people like it, so finally my dork side is envied, Hah. :P

It's better to have one and not need it, than need one and not have it.
