I think most always these street pipes are desighned around all the frame pipes and engine parts they have to clear. By the time that's done it's whatever the performance happens to be is what you get. There's only so much room and it has to look good for it to sell Performance is and always will be.. length, diameter, timing of pulse and tying them in together. If it looks like a curly straw for a kid's soft drink maybe raise and eyebrow. Even then once you get the exhaust wide open timing the pulses to suit rpm is all that's left. Other wise it's stuff it with baffle and see how much low end torque we can get. And how much top end we can lose doing it. Looks and restriction of the baffle is pretty much all the performance analysis you need, after all aren't looks performance too? In this case the dyno seems to plead the 5th.

I'd go kerker or nice old stock if you can. I've got a 50.00 CL MAC (or something like one) and can't say its a noticable increase over stock. I'm actually planning to go back to my painted stock pipes because I like the sound of my stock pipes more. Just me though, but a used kerker (painted black even) would be better than a used mac (chrome or black).

if you plan on keeping the bike for a long time i'd buy the kerker for sure that pipe will last for years whereas the mac is kind of disposable if you planning getting rid of the bike then go with the mac.

Mac pipes are junk. Buy a Kerker and be happy for a long time.

I have a Mac on my KZ1000. It was on it when I got it, so I can't compare it to anything else. You can tell that it isn't a high quality item, that's for sure. It had turned blue already, so I sandblasted it and powder coated it black. If you want chrome, I wouldn't get a Mac. If I could afford a Kerker, I'd probably get it, but I don't care too much to be honest.

maybe vance and hines will have there issues dealt with by feb when youre looking to buy - a happy medium between the mac and kerker i feel

I have the MAC 4-2 system on 1 of my bikes. What a POS. Had to do some work on the connections just to get them to seal. Never Again! Buy a Kerker, Buy a Vance and Hines, Buy a Jardine. Make your own! Just stay away from the MAC.

You'll save some money with the Mac pipe but no matter which you choose before installing them spray the inside of all you can get to with high- temp paint. I did this with Mac 4 into 1 and it seemed to help keep the bluing to a minimum.
