It's probably a standard bolt thread, like a 6mm bolt. You could thread a short bolt in there and continue riding if you want. The oil light will be on though. I'm glad it was the switch too. In all these years I've never heard of that crank seal leaking thankfully.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Most of the prices I found for them ranged between $60 and $80 without shipping. The one I got was right about $40 with $10 shipping. Either way...wish you had posted that a couple days ago. LOL!

Well, the one I purchased was a brand new part, not a used one. Sorry I didn't mention that. I just figured the new part would last longer....plus I didn't see any used ones that would fit the 750.

Clutch, for a brand new part that's about right. That same unit was used in the KZ550/650/700/750 and they normally don't fail. I don't ever recall seeing one fail in the manner that yours did. If they do fail it is normally that they just make the light stay on. I've never seen one leak before. To be able to fix it for $50.00 is way better than having to replace the crank seal. With any luck that's all you'll have to fix and you can just enjoy the riding season.

I feel a little foolish having ordered the new part. I checked the spare engine I have and it has the switch in it as well, though I don't know its condition. My best bet was to get a new part anyway. My guess of what caused the part to leak was the fact that the previous owner had overfilled the engine with oil, and I neglected to check it.

I do recall the oil light coming on once when I started the bike, right before the leak started....though it went out shortly after.

Oh well...live and learn

Ok, I got the new oil pressure switch. How the heck do I get the old one out? I don't have a wrench big enough to get around it, and I can't seem to get it loose with the channel lock pliers I am using. Is there some trick I don't know about to loosen it up?

I think it's a standard oil sending unit like they used on cars for years and years. I bought a special oil sending unit socket to replace my bosses sender on an old 1980 Ford LTD 20 yrs ago and I believe it would fit the Kawasaki part. Just go to Checkers or Autozone ect, and ask for an oil pressure sender socket and they should get you set up.

The biggest wrench I have is a 7/8", and it's just a tad too small. Looks like a 1" or metric equivalent will work, but I'll definitely ask. I'm off to the store!

26mm is the correct socket size for the oil pressure switch. Picked one up at Auto Zone today, pulled the old switch, put in the new one and VOILA...no more oil leak! Got in a short ride before work and then got wet on the way home (oh well...short trip). So no more slippery footpeg and oil soaked shoes...

Thanks for all the input guys...you all rock!
