use a good grade of motorcycle specific oil [ convential type not synthetic] look for the api rating on the back of the bottle look for sg or sj rated oils don't use the synthetic oils as the style of clutches that we run do not like it [not compatible].

i personally don't like to use synthetics because of 2 reasons one is as i mentioned the clutch issue i'm speacking from experiance with serious clutch creep and also the fact that synthetic flows a lot easier than conventioal oilswhen hot so if you have weak spot ina gasket or in a seal it will find it's way out very quickly and since we are dealing with 30 year old engines that have been apart and put back together un told times with scratched and gouged gasket surfaces and questionable seals why look for trouble it is my opinion that these new oils are very high quality but they belong in late model bikes that have seals designed for the qualitys of the current crop of oil's i appreciate that every bike owner want's the best for their bikes but i prefer to change the oil in my bike a little bit more often and spend my money on things that are important to the way the bike rides like in good quality tires the synthetics that you guy's have shown me are good oils without a doubt and have the proper api ratings that you need for bikes but i still wouldn't run them. but you know the old saying about opinions they are like assholes everybody has one so do what you think is best and what works for you.

i think the key here is to change it as needed if you notice the transmission or clutch is not operating as it should be change it if your running lots of miles in superhot weather change it more often if you are putting a lot of stop and go miles on it change if you ride very hard like i do change it more often use your best judgement give the motor what it wants i dont run synthetics in any of my engines and over the years i have had only one engine failure and that was due to breakage not to an oil issue. to each there own do what ever works for you i just believe strongly in motorcycle specific oils what ever the type.

ok good info you said sg or sj rated oils
can you though some brands out there for the dumb English man lol.
we have a small napa here on the island and the max speed here is 45, gets hot as hell in the summer and cold as witches titty in the winter.

only reason i used this oil as i used to work in a bike shop and i got a good discount and went for the best or so i thought:blink: but that was in England 19 yrs ago.

i should have phrased things a bit different if it works for you great i just have had some bad experiances with synthetics and am a firm believer in using it only in late model machines that have been designed with synthetics in mind.
