Check the 1982-1983 Kz550H1/H2 and 1984-1985 Zx550A1/A2. There is also a chance the 1981 Kz550D1 pan might fit. Those are all of the Gpz550's released in the U.S. I'm not sure if the Zx600 (liquid cooled Ninjas) might use the same pan or not, but you could check them too.
Looks like Corey, above, looked up the gasket numbers already. So it would be a matter of trying it. I thought I recall something about oil-pan gaskets in some gasket kits looking different, but I don't remember why, or what the difference was.
The oil pans have a flat machined area in the front with holes for the cooler hose, and the mounting flanges. I suppose if you changed the hose connections on the cooler, you might be able to drill and tap a standard oil pan, but you'd be breaking new ground on the 550's, as I've never seen it done. Everyone usually just finds a trashed gpz motor and snags the pan and cooler.

Just want all the protection during the hot months. Also, Should I be running a 10w or 20w oil?loudhvx wrote: By the way... is your bike having heat-related issues? If it's totally stock, it shouldn't be having too much trouble unless you live in Vegas or Tucson or something... ooh, I see you're in CA. I suppose it can get a little warm there.

Is that an oil pressure sensor coming out of the bottom? If so, was it cut or does it tie into something? Never mind, found it. They just cut it off pretty short.

As for the oil, I've only tried 20W50 once, and that was only because the motor was really worn and starting to make noise. It didn't help the problem, and it really made the engine sluggish compared to 10w40. But I only deal with 90 to 100 degree temperatures a few weeks out of the year, and spend a lot more time dealing with cool temps where I actually block the oil cooler with a piece of sheet metal.

That I'm not sure. Maybe there is something on it in the manual, like a oiling diagram. But if you want an oil pressure gauge, I think you could just use the pressure switch tap on your oil pan, or the 1981 gpz oil pan (if it fits, as it's the older styled motor). Unfortunately the newer styled gpz motors (82-85), use an oil level indicator. I'm not sure if they retained the tap for an oil pressure switch, but if they did, you could attach your gauge there.Kirkpatrick wrote: Is the oil pan pressurized throughout the pan so that I can drill and tap a pressure gauge? or is it only in the oil cooler "out" line (on the oil cooler)?
