KZ650 hop up parts vendor? was created by Skinthead
i have looked thru Z1 and APE sites and found virtually nothing for the small 4's in the way of speed parts. Is there some place that has a nice selection of cams and pistons for the 650/750 4's?

There's Wiseco for a 700cc kit.

Have you considered stock Kawasaki gpz/750 parts? Depending on your engine you can put a 750 top end on the 650. And 750 cams are an easy swap too. All in all, probably the cheapest way to go for the most power.

i am already on a set of 750 cylinders. Will be looking for GPz head for them when one pops up. I was hoping to find something with a bit more punch than the stock cams though.

Wiseco still makes pistons for the 750's, so that is a start. Now I just have to find cams and a GPz head to go with the rest of it. Would be nice to find a good set of stronger rods as well.

What is the real rev limit of these engines? if I recall correctly the factory redlines them at 8500 or 9K. Is that being conservative or realistic?

I bounce my stock motor (bigger carbs, K&N pods, and minimally baffled 4-1 on a 77 b1) off 10K fairly regularly and have never had an issue. I've run as high as 10,5 a couple of times, but there's really no more pull left after 10.

A set of kz750 cams on ebay right now, running pretty cheap...

You would probably have to swap cam sprockets if changing to 750 cams because of the different cam chains, but that's a quick and easy swap from what I've heard.

Look up Megacycle Cams and Web Racing cams, both of them make KZ650 stuff.

I personally have a set of GPz750 cams that are going in my 650 the spring, along with 810cc cylinders and a 750 head. They cost me $100 shipping included, lot cheaper than $450 plus tax and shipping for Webs. And I think they'll do the job just nicely, they have so much more lift than stock 650 cams.

i wanted to do the megacylce cam and hd valvetrain rout for my 810 and decided that for the $600 i could get alot more power/dollar out of my 1000. But i am still very satisfied with my 810/gpz combo. It gets the job done:)

Yeah I'm putting in the GPz cams, but I'm sticking in APE springs, keepers, and oil seals. So when I get some cash, I'll throw in some Megacycles, I'll be ready for a little more power by that time.

From what I have read in some of the older threads the GPz versions of these heads flow better than the std heads on any of these engines. Is this correct or am I reading htat wrong?

So far, I have on the way 750cc bores, possibly a 6-spd tranny from a 550GPz, and possibly a complete GPz750 head. I am figuring on an overbore on the cylinders to 810cc if possible, with 10.25:1 pistons from Wiseco. The 6-spd tranny goes in for just a little bit more close ratio thru the twisties. I loved the 6-spd in my old 550 when I had it.

The cams are what i am primarily interested in though. Stock GPz cams pull hard, but just a little more oomph would be nice.

Still planning in my head. Some things will be upgraded after the bike is finished.

Rolling Stock, I'd be interseted in the head if possible. Mine has a cracked valve seat. I'm ugrading my '77 KZ650 to an 810 with 750 jugs & head. Any idea on a price? Your '81 head should have a tach drive cable, right?
