the marine's verion of a KLR 650 is diesel/kerosine/jet-fuel (NATO fuels!!) and propane would be a cheap power booster for that bike kinda like nitrous for gas burners(although you can use nitrous in diesels). Propane works differently from gas though. the BTU per lb for propane is much higher then gasoline and excessive use of propane can cause overheating issues. Unlike gas if you run lean with propane it's cold versus running rich which would run hotter. It's a weird anomolly. it would be alot of work but it would be fun to see it done. As far as holding the fuel, you could use the very expensive carbon fiber tanks that rupture in a "nicer" way then steel tanks. Steel tanks seep out relatively small amounts where as carbon fiber tanks rupture like balloons *Pop* preventing the gas from staying compressed and exploding in a fire ball. So basically the difference is holding a fire cracker in your palm with your hand open as opposed to holding it in your palm with your hand closed. Im curious if you should use compression or spark to fire a CNG machine though seeing as how 90% of CNG machines i know of are diesel based. There has to be some reason they dont use a spark system.

out in western canada we have been using propane power for year's and it doesn't need to fuel injected to use it. the big problem with propane is that it has just over half the btu's of gasoline so what that mean's is for every gallon of gas you burn you would burn roughly about 1.5 gallons of propane so carring capacity of your fuel tank would be a big issue. in a pickup it's not a big problem you got a nice big box to put a tank into but on a bike where are you gonna put it. also propane is very dry fuel so you would need different valve seats and valves and also the vapourizer and condenser and extra plumbing for the carbs would take up too much space on a current bike also you would run into an availibility problem as far as the fuel supply's go in north america. that all being said there is nothing that you can think of that is impossible, so give a shot and let us know how it goes.

You betcha timebomb - I've operated a fleet of 5 propane and 5 diesel trucks here for 22 years. My work truck, a 1990 F-250 4x4 with 351 power, stellite valve seats,5 speed tranny, and 3.55 gears now has 355,000 miles on it with the same original exhaust system. The engine was rebuilt at 256,000 miles at which point it bent a pushrod. I use Esso(Exxon)Ultra 5W30 motor oil year round and NAPA Gold oil filters, with changes every 6,200 miles. When the trucks are all busy, I save about $1,000 per month in fuel expense.
You need heat to vaporize the propane which is supplied from the heater hoses on liquid cooled engines. Not sure how this would be done on an air cooled engine.

You can get LNG injectors. Vaporizing the fuel isn't all that necessary, if you can atomize gas in your intake you can atomize propane.

just about every forklift for the last 30 years has run on propane except for the bigger out door units, and i've even seen systems installed on small generators that are coming over from china. and i know those are air cooled and carburated im not sure exactly how they are doing it but i'll find out.
