Due to the higher compression ratio (10.25:1 vs. 8.5:1) on the new 1015cc piston kit I installed, I could probably count on blowing gaskets...
I also upgraded my CAM's so all in all, gasket upgrades were required.
I don't know the differences in your setup nor do I know if heavy duty studs are even available for the KZ650 but you may want to verify just the same.
Just a thought!

You bike is absolutely sick, by the way, has it been finished yet? I checked out your build thread a little bit ago, nice work!

Unfortunately no....has it been finished yet?
I still have a ways to go yet... Waiting for the funds for the head work @ Cavanaugh's (3 way grind w/mild port & polish) for the upgrade to .365 CAM's and manifolds for the Keihin 29mm CR special carbs.
Once I get this accomplished then she'll be ready to fire up at least.
I still need to upgrade to the Dyna ignition/coils and I want to install a Barnett clutch with new heavy duty springs as well. I already have a brand spanking new 4:1 Kerker with 1.5" competition baffle.... Almost forgot, new tires are needed...
Getting there but a ways to go yet... Probably around the first of the year she should be about completed... Until then, just getting all the other minor stuff done.

I may have misunderstood but what would the harm be if the cylinder was mated directly to the upper case with case seal?
Any opinions? Personally, I'd prefer at minimum to use a copper or bronze base gasket to have at least something sandwiched between these mated surfaces...
If such a beast is available for the 750 block.
Sorry to hijack your thread but it's sort of on topic...

its gonna be pretty hard to keep the aluminum parts to seal against themselves for any amount of time without a gasket due to expansion and contraction on a bike that gets ridden more than 1/4 mile at a time ,but id be interested to see if it canbe done.Since you bring it up. In discussing increasing compression with Derek at Moto Lab. One of the items to remove is the base gasket from the assembly.

The only way I see this working is if both sides are completely square. To do this both block and cylinder would have to be "worked" on a flat surface...
Mentioning taking 20 or 30 thousandths off the head to decrease squish and increase compression it met with a wince from Derek.
