Base gasket was created by Bdog
Putting 810 kit in motor. Have the barrels bored and pistons, need a base gasket. will a stock base be ok? Is there a "high performance" gasket available?

I don't know about this for a KZ650 but for the KZ900, it was highly recommended that the cylinder studs also be upgraded.

Due to the higher compression ratio (10.25:1 vs. 8.5:1) on the new 1015cc piston kit I installed, I could probably count on blowing gaskets...

I also upgraded my CAM's so all in all, gasket upgrades were required.

I don't know the differences in your setup nor do I know if heavy duty studs are even available for the KZ650 but you may want to verify just the same.

Just a thought!

I think the studs are useable for the 650s too. My jump in compression will only be around .75-1.25 over stock and I will be using Gpz cams. I have found all sorts of gaskets for the liter bikes, but not as much for the lightweights.

You bike is absolutely sick, by the way, has it been finished yet? I checked out your build thread a little bit ago, nice work!

has it been finished yet?

Unfortunately no....:(

I still have a ways to go yet... Waiting for the funds for the head work @ Cavanaugh's (3 way grind w/mild port & polish) for the upgrade to .365 CAM's and manifolds for the Keihin 29mm CR special carbs.

Once I get this accomplished then she'll be ready to fire up at least.

I still need to upgrade to the Dyna ignition/coils and I want to install a Barnett clutch with new heavy duty springs as well. I already have a brand spanking new 4:1 Kerker with 1.5" competition baffle.... Almost forgot, new tires are needed...

Getting there but a ways to go yet... Probably around the first of the year she should be about completed... Until then, just getting all the other minor stuff done.

I actually just acquired a lightly used set of 3 ohm dyna coils and a brand new in the bag set of their wires when I got the 810 motor. It also came with an ignition plate but I don't think that it fits liter bikes. Fifty bucks and shipping if you'd like them. I just don't need 'em, I run accel coils and wires.

ive run plenty of motors with more than 10.25:1 compression with stock cylinder studs and nuts,if youve got money to spend its fine but there are plenty of other things these motors need more.;)

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

Since you bring it up. In discussing increasing compression with Derek at Moto Lab. One of the items to remove is the base gasket from the assembly.

I may have misunderstood but what would the harm be if the cylinder was mated directly to the upper case with case seal?

Any opinions? Personally, I'd prefer at minimum to use a copper or bronze base gasket to have at least something sandwiched between these mated surfaces...
If such a beast is available for the 750 block.

Sorry to hijack your thread but it's sort of on topic...

its gonna be pretty hard to keep the aluminum parts to seal against themselves for any amount of time without a gasket due to expansion and contraction on a bike that gets ridden more than 1/4 mile at a time ,but id be interested to see if it canbe done.;)

I hear ya thus skeptical of the method. It's interesting how many options there are out there to tune these motors.

The only way I see this working is if both sides are completely square. To do this both block and cylinder would have to be "worked" on a flat surface...

Mentioning taking 20 or 30 thousandths off the head to decrease squish and increase compression it met with a wince from Derek.
