I now have my head and cylinders off and I was thinking, could I get longer 6x1 bolts cut the head off and clean up the threads and locktite them into the holes and then fasten the camcaps down using nuts? I would use 2 nuts on the "stud" to put them in. I just hate taking those bolts out and in. Thoughts?

The stud idea would work except there is not much room under the cover, so your studs could only extend up about as high as the original bolt head was. Trouble with this is when you bolt in the cams being as they have lobes, the camshaft will be sitting quite a ways off the head surface and I doubt the stud would be long enough to allow threading on the nut. Just helicoil and tighten to only 5.5 ft/lbs (66 in/lb).

I already have done the helicoils, I was just thinking of something that I don't have to remove and install everytime I need to adjust the valves.

ok I did the helicoil trick already and well I dont think I did such a good job, so my camshaft came back up. What else should I do....? Bigger threads? The bolt trick? I was gonna do another helicoil of a rougher thread. Is that ok?

Are u saying that the coil stripped out of the hole?
did this happen when u were trying to pull the cam and cap down into place with that bolt?

Wolf, I'm not familiar with your' motor, or if the hole your' working on is also a dowel one. but offer these. TIME-SERTS are similar to heli-coil, only instead of winding a bit of square wire into a re-sized hole, insert is a steel inside/outside threaded sleeve. and are avail. in different lengths. If your' cam tower height is sufficient to accept a longer insert, and previous tap isn't totally wasted, you might be able to insert a longer fitting deeper into head, and using a longer bolt come up with a combo which holds proper torque.Luck G

I agree with Gane, TimeSerts are great. I think they make an insert that covers your problem. That is a "second" oversize O.D. thread. The M6x1.0 standard O.D. insert is M8x1.0, which is the so called M6 STI tap. (Steel Thread Insert). After you use a TimeSert, you won't use anything else. The kit costs more than the helical wire ones. The cool thing is that the insert is swaged into the parent material. Ride safe, Steve
