Header Wrap
04 Jan 2008 00:19
I am considering wrapping my header. The front of my Kerker is pretty pitted so I figured I could cover it up. I photoshopped some pics because I m trying to decide what color to go with. Let me know what you think. I am leaning towards the tan.

I like the looks of the black wrap on your bike, myself ... I've been thinking of wrapping the pitted, old black MAC header on my KZ too.

I did black on mine, and will do black on the rest that I do, too.
I suppose you could do tan if you live in a mostly-sunny climate, or accept the consequences otherwise. I mean, around here (Michigan), it would only take one rainy ride to make the middle two pipes on your bike black on the front anyway from road mucky spray... then you'd have a strange looking pattern...

Black for sure. I have done a few bikes and it look killer. It will fade after getting washed a few times but you can just give it a quick spray paint again. Buy the thin white wrap (the wide stuff is too hard to do our header with). Soak it in water for a few hours. Put on some rubber gloves because it is made of fiberglass and itches like crazy. Wrap the pipe from bottom to top so that the wrap is overlapping the correct way. Tie it up with metal zip ties and then let it dry. You can put it on the bike and run it to help it dry. As it dires it shrinks and becomes very tight. After it is dired you can paint it with any high temp paint. You could paint it red if you wanted. It wil take about 4 coats because the paint will soak in a bit but when you are done it will look bitchin

jagrider here I have a ZX7 with a Zx9 14.5 piston motor on it. I rap the header the motor temp went up 12 degreas it traps some heat in the exhaust system. You my like to install a temp gauge some where along the motor. You can buy small oil temp gauge at any speed shop for cars.Running oil lines around the motor will koss temp to go up to - because when the oil is coming and going it's heating up when the oil lines are close to the motor. Oil lines should be ran on top and mounted to the rails under the gas tank over the motor and then back to the motor. Make sure there a oil pressure gauge 0 to 25 pis install or close to it.
Happy new year :woohoo:

Send them out for Jet Hot Coating instead. They'll do the inside and outside. Long term use of header wrap will cause crystalization of the metal.

I guess tha blacks have it. I didn't think about the tan getting dirty looking. I wish I had the money to have it jet-hot coated but not in the budget right now.

I've heard that wrapping pipes increases thermal efficiency? Whatever that means... :S
