Will exhaust from KZ1000 fit KZ750 ?
03 Jan 2008 06:27
Hi,
I found a cheap and nice exhaust on Ebay that fits a KZ 1000. Will this fit my KZ 750..with some modifications ?

In a nutshell...no. The distance between the header pipes are fixed on the pictured set...this distance differs between 750(4) and 1000's.

But if the pipes are adjustable...wouldn´t it be possible to make it fit some how ?

While I haven't measured (and I have a set of 750(4) and 1000 pipes at home) I'd bet the diameter of the head inserts are different. I can measure tonight if no one chimes in.

The 2 outer pipes are further apart on a KZ1000 than a 750. You can't adjust for that.

That is surprising Ron since the carb spacing is the same. The system pictured has the outside two pipes welded on but the middle two are not... they just sit in the collectors and move. Do you use the same exhaust gaskets on a 750 and a 1000? If so, that would imply the holes in the head are the same diameter.

To change the distance of the outer pipes, simply cut and reweld the balance tube between them...shortening it...

The intake side spacing is the same, the exhaust spacing is not. The brass rings that seal the pipe to the head are also smaller diameter on a 750 than a 1000. I doubt that even if you could bend the KZ1000 system to align with the 750 exhaust ports the pipes would be able to be installed.

I owned a 750 and now a 1000. There is a big difference in the size of the 1000 pipes. Even the way they mount to the exhaust manifold is different.

Even though you probably have your answer, the OD (terminal lip) measurement on a KZ1000 kerker header exhaust pipe is approximately 42mm while that of a MAC KZ750 exhaust pipe is approximately 38mm.

Food for thought......Anything can be made to fit/work ...if determined or stuborn enough to do what is nessasary to acomplish your goal. Cost , work involved , and time spent are the only real limiting factors. that said.....pipes are fairly cheap....why bother with a project like this???? take care all..jonnybiker
