I was thinking about having mine done in something called Cermachrome. www.jcmmachine.com/
Looks like polished aluminum supposedly. He quoted me a price of $175.
OR, there's a regular powder coater just down the road from me that will do mine in gloss black for $65.
Decisions decisions...

riverroad - did you ever get your pipe done? I'm looking into having one done.

HTC ( High Tech Coatings )in Ruscom Ontario, which is just outside Windsor, across the border from Detroit. Owner's name is Rick and number is 888-225-8648. With the current US$ -CDN$ exchange rate his pricing should be a bargain and his packaging is great.Have no qualms about recommending this shop to a fellow MKll owner.

Thanks for the info Jack, I will check them out.

You also reminded me that my brother has an old Murray in the garage, I think. I'll have to get a hold of him and see if he's ready to part with it...

If in the U.S. these guys have a great reputation and I have two friends who have used their services on multiple bikes, one a turbo, with very positive results. The turbo header is over 3 years now and looks great.

When I re-built a '68 El Camino many moons ago I installed ceramic coated headers but this was on the inside of the pipe where you want it for heat displacements.

From what I'm gathering in this conversation, this is an outside coating or both?

As for $$$, if it's more than half the price of a new pipe, (New chrome Kerker @ $500, V&H @ $200-$350) doubtful I would use...

Example, if the pipe is dented, rusted, cracked whatever, truly how effective is it compared to the new pipe designs. Not only in looks but obtainable power increase due to ideal flow.

Just my worthless 2 cents worth...

Still looking to see how much folks would be willing to pay for ceramic coating. Not sure which colors will be offered nor turn around at this point. Just trying to figure out if this is worth my time.

Since a new 4-1 runs about $300 ballpark, I would give a wild guess as saying the top shelf somebody would pay to coat an old one would be about half of that. More than that, and they would just buy new pipes.

In cases of restoring a classic where no new pipes can be had, they would likely pay a little more.

I've got my pipe in at The Edge Custom Coatings at the moment.
Getting it Powder Coated, High Heat to 1000 Degree, not sure if that's F or C.

If that is degrees centigrade, I believe the steel pipe would already have melted away....
