There are only three coils. They're double output coils. They work by sending a voltage out of one secondary post and taking it back in the other. In the process two plugs fire. I spent a lot of time trying to locate all three coils in the same area and in the end decided that two in the tool tray and one between the frame tubes was the best I could do.

I'm interested in any other solution you can come up with. Keep in mind that one big reason why these 1300's run so hot is because of all the shiite that MaKaw jambed in atop the valve cover. Once you get rid of the two lower coils and the airinjection valves there's a lot more room for cooling.

not sure what the air injection stuff is but I'm assuming it's all the stuff that looks like emissions control of the older Fords? can you just leave it out or do you have to plug off all the ports? Lookign at that, I think with the lower two units, relocated I could run some tinware right under the lower post if there was a problem.

I got the engine sitting in the floor, so now I've just got to get the heads off to see if there's any hope...

The air injection system picks up filtered air from the airbox so that one place you'll have to plug. It picks up vacuum from one of the intakes, that's the second place you'll have to plug. Lastly you'll have to plug the two reed valve boxes atop the exhaust side of the valve cover. There are several places that market block off plates that look cleaner than a stock reed valve with a cork in it.

I got the head off cylinders 3 and 4 are rusty but the pistons are almost tdc. soaking with pb. nothing budges. I already scraped all the visible rust out with a xacto knife, and every thing shined up just fine, no pits. doesn't seem like it should be enough to lock it all the way down. do you think it'll hurt to soak overnight with pb or should I drain it and use motor oil?

Not sure what PB is. I'd use Marvel Mystery Oil but I'm sure regular motor oil would do as well.

KZCSI... Those liners look like they're pressed in are you sure they're cast in? Each liner has a flat spot where they touch each other. Or did they stack them together and cast the water jacket around them?

KZ: I've been checking into the 1502, and the machine shop I deal with here says NO DON'T! He says they're real torquey as is and need all the oil ports enlarged to get any higher rpm without RIPing the engine.

So I'm changing gears. (ouch I hate grinding them that way) do you ever see stock liners around? Locals said I can get them at L.A. sleeve which makes custom liners. No prices yet but they said they thought around $80 each. I'm hoping to find some used or NOS.

I also need two pistons. I just can't get the rings out of these.

Hi JJ,
Did your bike break a cam chain? How many valves are bent? I've got a spare block which I'd part with for what I've got in it. $119.00 plus some shipping. I've also got a spare head which I rebuilt myself, but I want to keep it, in case.

There are plenty of parts on E-Bay.

Didn't know about the liners being removable, sorry.
