oil leak was created by BSKZ650
on my 77 LTD 1000 I have a small oil leak on the left side of the head, there are two soft plugs under the cam half moons,
there are two on the right side but they dont leak,
Any idea on how to seal these off, I am not sure silicone will do it,

one more note, I see the oil trail after it has been sitting,

common leak spot try a new valve cover gasket and pull the rubber plugs out and clean them at same time and reinstall them with just a little 3 bond on them;)

Perhaps oil in the top end puddles toward the left side when leaning on the kick stand. Probably an easy fix. May want to check/adjust valve clearances while cam cover is off, also use new cam cover gasket, maybe new cam end plugs too (huge variety available in mutiple colors if desired). If tach drive is oozing, good time to change the tach drive seal and o-ring also.

Believe www.Z1Enterprises.com has everything needed for any or all of these.

Lots of helpful info available by typing cam plug leak in the search forum box. Here's one of the threads --

Good Luck! :)

its not leaking at the valve cover or the half moon caps, its a soft plug that is down at the area of the head stud nut

Slightly OT, but while reading this, it made me think, what is the purpose of the half-moon rubber cam plugs? Do they serve any purpose other than to leak? Why not just bring the head rim up to meet the cover flush?

I'm thinking it has to do with how the head was milled, but then again, I'm usually wrong. OK, I'll go back to chitchat where I belong.:pinch:

Have we determined what type bike is being referred to? There are no soft rubber plugs on a 903cc/1015cc or J motor below the cam end plugs. The cam end plugs are there so oil doesn't drool out the cylinder head. The half moon cut offs are there because the head was originally cast with the cam caps as part of the casting. A drill bit was pushed through that hole from the side (the line boring mentioned) to make the holes for the bearing surfaces the casting is cut and the cam caps result... I think that is the way it is done.
