83 kz550a case guard don't fit.

Ok, I have searched ebay, etc. for case guards for my 83 kz550a model and found a lot that are universal for 81-83. Found a set on ebay for an 82 kz550 from KG Engineering. As I suspected, after they arrived, the bolt patterns do not match up. It is a 3 point mount where the middle bolt hole has not frame bolt to match up to. So my question is that I love the way they look but is there a company out there that actually makes them for the 83 kz550a?

The eBay listing selling those case guards didn't make any sense. The title shows KZ550 but the text shows KZ1000. Clearly there's a major difference between the two bikes. Fortunately, the seller does accept returns. Ed

The 550 motors all have the same case bolt pattern, so it should line up to any KZ550 if it uses the engine mounting bolts. Some of the later ones use rubber-cushion mounts, but the bolt alignment is the same. Even the Zx550 uses Kz motor cases.

As Ed and Steve suggest, you should return them.

And, there are definitely KZ550/ZX550 case guards available. I've seen many, but sorry I don't have any brand-name or model numbers.

Be aware, some use two mounting points and some use three.
