Great looking bikes....,  I'm doing a frame off on a 77 1000 LTD (first go around)...,  purchased from a riding buddy who passed away from cancer last year....     I find it very difficult to locate good parts (some stuff I purchased from Z1 enterprises was poor quality)..,     Do you have any info on Handlebars..?   Stock OEM, or good aftermarket with holes drilled in bars..?     Any info on where to purchase good parts appreciated.

thanks,    John

This month we are off to Canada for Rob's KZ1000R2 to close out 2025. One of my favourite Kaws this one has had a comprehensive "refresh" to make it a great addition to Rob's growing stable. I'll let Rob give you the lowdown
I bought this 1983 KZ1000R2 in May 2025, off a childhood friend. He bought her 15 years ago, and I've been trying to buy her ever since. My friend put her in storage, and did nothing with her, He buys and sells motorcycles all the time. Too many projects, This one I think he bought as an Investment. He did finally cave in this year, and sold it to me (for too much I think, buddy to buddy) considering the amount of work she was going to need as well.Having just worked on a friends 1978 KZ1000, I was ready to tackle this one, and besides, she's a rare model highly sought after.I went through her, replacing lots of rubber parts. Luckily most of the bike was there, including the air box, chain guard was sourced from California, front rotors from Australia, parts from the USA and UK.From eBay and the Kawasaki Dealer - New brakes: lines, pads, callipers rebuilt, MC rebuilt. New tires, bearings, forks rebuilt and cleaned. Some wiring fixed, the bodywork painted, and the bike cleaned (she was very dirty). In October I was able to take her for a few test rides. More maintenance will be done over the Winter.

On my short test rides, I stopped at a gas station to fill up, and someone asked what year she was, admiring her.
Then I stopped for the picture near the Lake, and a guy complimented on her as well.
I was out maye 15 minutes, and she got some attention.

The paint looks good in these pictures, but the gas tank, side panels and fairing do have a lot of paint chips and scratches
A second set of bodywork is currently at the painters.
When he saw the original tank, he said he could restore it.
Keeping the original paint, fixing the chips etc, and clearing over. So that will be done too.
I think she will look even better in the Spring.

You should be prepared for the compliments and "what year is that?" when you ride it next season.
I don't get tired of answering, "yeah, it's a 50 year old Z1" when I stop for gas.
