I get it..you guys like building gadgets to replace special tools. But honestly by the time you screw around cutting sockets up and buying wood clams....wouldn't it just make a whole lot more sense to buy one of these for $16.99 B) Real Valve Spring Compressor Kit

Believe me.....I'm not attempting to thwart your ideas or derail this topic. It's just that sometimes the right tool for the job is really not expensive :)

Larry, that is so awesome! I have been thinking about making my own tool for the last couple of years. Only because the special tools I have seen were about a $130.00 or so. As a matter of fact, last time I had my head off, I avoided doing the valves due to the extra cost (but also didn't have the time). But for $16.99 I'm picking up one of these bad boys this week. Even if don't get around to using it this year. :)

I haven't used that particular set but I do have a set that I bought for about $30 from Ebay [new] and I like it better than my OEM Kawasaki Spring Compressor.

Getting keepers out is pretty easy. It's putting them in that's harder. I like to have the whole area open so I can get at the valve stem tip from both sides.

Just Google Valve Spring Compressor...they're out there and very affordable.

 When you have a stack of them to do, the last thing you want to do is make another tool...

Let's see..you paid $13 for the harbor freight tool that you then had to modify...out comes the welder..... IDK... Dave....

Here's some cool tech though.
