Obviously, you can always use a different master to get around that problem. But I have come to like the welded ones, plus they are not very expensive.

loudhvx wrote: Some KZ's, like my 550, can't use clipons that clamp onto the bar. The clamping mechanism interferes with the front master cylinder assembly. The master cylinder is a long rectangular reservoir that hugs the bar over several inches. That leaves no clearance for the clamping mechanism to hold the bar. They have to use a bar that's welded onto the fork clamp.

The kind using aluminum clamps usually have aluminum bars, but I'd have to get a different front master to use them.

I just saw you have a 79 1000 shaft. those are 40mm forks i believe. NOT 36mm.

Yes, but sometimes that's good. My buddy is converting one to chain. He says the shaft frame is the desired frame for a swingarm conversion because the frame is wider allowing for more chain clearance etc.Serpent7 wrote:

Personally, I think the ST is one of the best looking KZ's.

Yeah, the ST seems to be put together a little better, and with more quality than the regulars. Thicker forks, nicer frame, I believe wider rims, Shaftie all the way for me!
I got some conflicting sizes though now for my forks. I've seen 36mm, 40mm, and 41mm. I'm now very unsure as to what size clip-ones to order... Any ideas?
