Just wondering why...........?

Since I picked my KZ up, I've been doing a lot of searching, reading, youtubing, etc. getting some ideas about what direction I want to go with it. During my research, I keep asking myself the same question, what is the appeal of the CB's when it comes to cafe builds? Is it a production numbers thing? Did Honda put out just that many more bikes than the others that they are just more prevalent?

Granted I can get style ideas from looking at them, but it just seems like the market is very much focused on that model. Just curious is all. The realm of "vintage" Japanese bikes is a bit new to me.

Easy question, Nobody cares when a Honda CB is cut up and turned into a nightmare because they were and always will be inferior to KZs. It's different with KZs. Many folks (though not all) still value the original appeal of the bike. So, for example, you don't see many 1973 Z1 bikes being hacked apart to make a home made "custom."

You answered your own question realy. The Hondas are more prevelent, and as ED said they arent as valued, is false...take a look at some of the Honda boards and they pull absolute fits when someone modifies a SOHC bike lol.

Its the Chevy vs Ford of the motorcycle world lol. We all have different taste.

You will find guys that modify Hondas tend to go Cafe, where Kawi guys tend to go more vintage Superbike.

I have had plenty of Hondas, many CB400F's, CB550K, 750K, 750F's etc. But they are Drab and boring compared to the raw KZ series. I'll withdraw that statement for the 400F's as they are a pretty cool little bike. But Hondas in general are too refined and just plain uninteresting because of it.

What'd you get? Post some pics!

Just thought I'd chime in here since I'm into both...Honda's are probably more numerous and thus generally cheaper. All parts are generally available for cb750's at least, often oem...Kaw's seem to have excellent aftermarket engine parts availability due to long time domination of drag racing but stuff other than the motors is scarcer. Honda's are more popular for cafes because they are generally lighter in stock form and the frames are possibly a bit stiffer...now don't get me wrong guys, when it comes to hp?...a cb750 vs a Z1?... :sick:
