Awe man, I'm sorry to hear that Mark!

I had an electrical problem not too long ago... somehow an electrical short grounded on the spring that covers the stock brake hose (going from the MC to the brake splitter) and started melting the brake hose! Talk about worst case scenario!

Wound up going through the entire system and replacing anything that looked remotely sketchy.

Do you have a modern regulator/rectifier on it?

yes, Mark i have the newer reg/rec combo. every part on the bike has been refreshed except the wireing. guess whats next. lol. i suppose i should try to separate some circuits from to separate fuses, or buy a whole new wire harness from a newer kz. mine has the early 73/74 wireing harness with only 1 fuse.
Have u been able to get the Yosh from your parents yet?

You're ballsier than I am, I would NOT run the original wiring harness on a bike with that much effort put in! haha Yeah Z1E sells them, I was eyeing one up for awhile, but I need to get dual discs first. The Yosh is in a dry and safe place in PA still, my Dad is cleaning up some parts at his workplace for me then he'll ship the parts back.

Spread the news. The KZ Banner has crossed the border into Canada.

Jeff is on the move again. He is heading north on a wayward path, somewhat in the direction of home(Northbay). He is just going where the wind blows him. Must be nice to do that, just ride until u feel like going home. He is heading to Bancroft at the moment.

For some reason that wiring doesn't go with that bike :blink:

Mark, it may have been a loose connection causing a hot spot, like motorhead suggests.
I don't have much faith in those auto parts store in-line fuse holders. I've made up my own using high grade 1/4" spade connectors with good success. Hope you found out what the culprit was. Hate it for you that you missed your ride.

i agree the bike needs a complete rewire. :sick: i just keep adding and changing stuff. just added a complete set of zrx12 gauges.
i am wondering if the easiest rout may be to buy a new 78ish wiring harness, or start from scratch?
do u think a newer 3or4 fuse harness would be easier? just thinking it may have dif routing to the bar controls or something? i would actually , love to use modern controls anyway s.

I'm sorry, but I just joined tonight (8-16-2012) and have been trying to wade through 38 pages of this relay. I live in Pittsburgh, PA. Has the flag gone past me yet? If not, I see by a map pic a couple of pages back, someone in Pittsburgh, #20 is going to be taking it. If it hasn't gotten here yet, I'd love to ride along and be part of the relay.

Hey Bull, no problem! The flag just crossed back into the states so it will be coming from Michigan through Indiana to Ohio. We had a Pittsburgh rider, Cobura, but haven't heard from him in awhile. If he is still in then the two of you can meet up with dmiller21283 to get the flag then pass it off to hynohio. We need it to pass through West Va., going between PA and back into OH.

If Cobura is out then will you be up for the trip solo? Here is the map, I took the liberty to add you to the map.
