I test rode a Super Glide.... was created by Mike Mecredy
Last weekend I rode the KZ up to Twin Falls Idaho to the Harley Dealership, they were having an open house and allowing customers to take demo rides on some of the 2009 and 2010 models they had. I got on a superglide and took off down the rode. All I got out of the experience was a new appriciation for the '97 KZ 1000P I left on. That Harley was a rough ride, too much vibration and couldn't hear myself think. It just looked nice, that's about it. I realized that with the KZ 1000, I have it all.

Well apples aren't oranges either...

Look HD makes nice bikes, but very differnt bikes from what most people that frequent this site like to ride. People that really like to "drive" motorcycles feel the shortcommings of the chunky cruisers. The big raod bikes I find very smooth and comfortable, HD has really come along way in the last 20 years. But the price tag is REDICULOUS.

The street bobs and sportsters, on the other hand, are pretty lacking in alot of ways. And the price is still nuts. The screaming eagle Night Rod it a nice looking bike that will haul ass, but agian you have to pay to play with HD.

From a durability, cost, and performance stand point, there is a reason that police bike you drive was built for so many years. Just imagine if HD still built the same crap they made in the Late 70's... not a chance. The competiton between the Japaneese manufacturers in the 70's and 80's produced some of the best bikes ever, others got left far behind and held on to nostalgia. Just the way it is.

If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

I raised my great niece from age 2 till age 10. She rode on my 750 twin with me fairly often, and one day when she was nine I took her for a ride on a borrowed SuperGlide. We did a 15-20 mile ride of mostly back roads, and upon our return I asked her how she liked it, and if she thought I should replace the 750 twin with the SuperGlide. Her response? "It sucks!" and "No way! Keep the Kawasaki!!".

Out of the mouths of babes

IMHO, you have to really want to be part of the "Social Experience" in order to overlook the glaring faults in the Harleys.

Victory is another matter, I really like the Victory Tour.

I remember back in the early 70's when we were all on Kawasakis and Hondas and Yama-hammers, and a Harley would turn your head. Now they are a dime a dozen... or rather 20,000 dollars a piece and the old school Kawasakis are the head turners.

My neighbor and his wife have always had Big Hondas since we moved into the neighborhood. A couple of years ago he bought a Harley. The Harley is gone already, He traded it in for another Honda, he said the Harley shook too much and rode like crap.

I find it quite intersting that the Universal Japanese Motorcycle is now seen as "unique" and "old school". I am surprized at the number of people that comment on my Old kz650, never expected anyone would notice what it was. I just built it becasue it wanted to hear that beautiful exhaust note form an air cooled 4 again. When I used to ride a KZ 1000 back in high school they were cheap as hell and nobody cared what it was (I really wish I would have kept that bike). Shit just look what a CB750 goes for on ebay nowadays. Who would have thought?

If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

My point exactly. I ride with a pack of old KZ Bikers, all of us on thirty or more year old bikes. We are the main attraction wherever we go. I've seen the ferryboat pilot come down out of his cabin to check out our pack of Kaw's. His comment was: "Man it sure is nice to see some real old school bikes instead of all these Harley's trying to look old school." I wouldn't give up my old Kaw even if I did get something else.

I was taught to appreciate all motorcycles. That is not saying I want to ride or own all motorcycles. I don't want to own all of any makers models. AND I can't think of a maker that I don't want to own any of their bikes. And I have not rode all of every makers bikes so why would I go out of my way to dis any maker? Until the other guy disses my ride he is my brother and his bike is my brothers ride. Standards, Cruisers, Bobbers, Cafe, Choppers, Dirt, Flat trackers, GP, Rats, trikes and a few more share the same DNA and so does the makers. We are better/stronger together than infighting. But it is a war of long standing and I guess it will go on. Shame tho...

Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.
